The Finncont story begins
Our story begins already in the 1940s, when Mety Oy, a company originally focused on the manufacture of paint cans and metal packaging, was founded in Ylöjärvi. In 1974, the company expanded to Virat and Finncont, a factory manufacturing liquid containers was established.

Internationalisation
For Finncont, the 1980s was a decade of internationalisation and spreading the good tidings of liquid containers outside of Finland to the Nordic countries. Expansion to new markets was linked to business expansion expanded as the company started manufacturing rotational-moulded products. Today, contract manufacturing by rotational moulding is a significant part of Finncont’s operations.
This decade also saw the first change of ownership, when G.W. Sohlberg acquired and merged it with his GWS group. At this point, Mety Oy became GWS Finncont Oy.

Investments in development
The 1990s focused on growth through investments. A welding robot was acquired for production, and separate premises were constructed for the rotational-moulding business.

2000
From part of the GWS group to a family business
In 2003–2004, the company separated from the GWS Group to become a family business. This acquisition also saw the name of the company change to its current form: GWS Finncont Oy -> Finncont Oy. This was also the beginning of the Finncont brand.
The 2000s also saw expansion of the factory and the establishment of a separate design department, Finncont Design Studio®.
2010
The era of growth
The 2010s was a period of strong and versatile growth. Luowia Collection Oy was founded to develop recycled products for which there was strong demand in the market. An office was opened in Sweden to improve the company’s presence, and later on the subsidiary Finncont AB was founded. Finncont bought Flaaming Oy and renamed it Finncont Ympäristötuotteet Oy. This decade also saw intensified digital development and the beginning of eFinncont.
